What is Pasture-based farming?

  • Are free to roam throughout their natural environment, with access to fresh air, natural sunlight, clean fresh water and natural sources of nutrition
  • Do not suffer from stresses associated with being forced to live in confined, crowded areas with other animals, which significantly impacts their quality of life. Studies have shown that a reduced quality of life for animals causes them to produce the “stress” hormone called cortisol that can end up in meat products and that they grow much more slowly, leading farmers to use other harmful growth hormones to optimize production.
  • Are far less likely to suffer from bacterial and/or viral infections/diseases (only treatable through antibiotics, if at all), often the result of being crammed in close quarters to many other animals
  • Provide ideal conditions for all living species, thereby eliminating the use of chemicals and pesticides that interfere with growth and interrupt the natural ecological equilibrium

Our livestock are never fed growth hormones or synthetic feed additives. Our livestock’s natural diet of pasture and during winter months, hay and grains, means that you don’t have to wonder about what you’re putting in your body. Our meat is free from additives, steroids and hormones. Our animals are treated with antibiotics only if they are sick and under veterinary care.

As stewards of the land we have a responsibility to maintain and protect the natural heritage, systems and resources and protect the agricultural land base. Using best farm practices we can ensure food security, support other nearby local farmers and preserve the rural character of the landscape.
